Summary: Updated: Pros & Cons after 3 kids
Comment: Tough getting this thing started! Once we figured it out correctly (i.e., read the instructions), no problem using the Genie. We had the wide-opening Genie and thought it was great! No smell when closed (always emptied it outside). As long as the diapers were pushed down to the clips, no problems sealing the diaper to make the "sausage". The cutter worked fine for the first baby (about 2 years), then started to wear down. We tried the Toddler refills, but found for the money, not worth it. They filled the Genie too fast anyway! After the second baby (three years), we tossed the Genie for a replacement. The plastic does start to smell after several years, and the cutter isn't the greatest. We are in the market for another Genie though! Couldn't live without it for the third baby!

Update:
The newer Genie, purchased for our third baby, is MUCH easier to refill than the older one! I still find the cutter isn't the greatest, sometimes I use a pair of scissors. It definitely keeps the smell inside though. And my 3yr & 5yr old daughters can operate the Genie (except the cutter) without any problems.

Summary: Great product if you know how to use it.
Comment: When I used it for the first time, I set it up incorrectly and hard a hard time with the first 10-15 diapers. After this I releazed that I must be doing something wrong and went to Diaper Genie's website to look at the instructions (which few of us bother to read).

Anyway, since I set it up correctly, it works great. There a ABSOLUTELY NO ODOR even when we open it to put in a soiled diaper. The trick to an odor free pail is to put in the diaper correclty, so that it it gets caught by the clips inside the pail and then twisting the ring so that the bag is taut.

Summary: Diaper Weenie!!!
Comment: There isn't a plastic diaper can in the world that doesn't absorb baby stink and diaper genie is the worst. I plan on buying one of those metal bullet shaped cans with a lid and some tough bags.

Comment: My husband and I both have PhDs and cannot operate this thing. I have replaced the refills three times and every time I have to struggle with it. The top has since broken off and the filter is shredded from trying to jam it on. I am mystified with the most recent problem -- the refill seems too big to fit in. The only thing I can think of is that it fits a previous model. If so, then why the h*** don't they say that on the label? If you have nothing better to do (now that you have a newborn baby) than mess around with some instructions, then feel free to get this product. Otherwise, look for the other diaper disposal systems. Those people who didn't have problems with it were just lucky, in my opinion. A few other bouts with products of comparable poor design and they too would be complaining.

Summary: No more stink!!
Comment: My husband and I love the genie!! I believe it is worth the expense (which isn't really that bad). I know that without the genie the nursery would be unbearable because of the smell. With the genie, there is no smell!! Well...the genie itself does start to smell inside (which is not noticeable until emptying the pail), so we just put a "stick-ups" inside the side and bottom of pail. The genie may sound tricky at first, but is actually very easy to use. You just have to be sure not to push the diaper in past the "teeth" and twist a couple of times so the diapers are not just falling in the pail. As stated previously, be sure to get the right size refills and I highly recommend switching to the toddler (green) refills when your child reaches that stage. Toddlers do make bigger and smellier messes and those refills are thicker.
I highly recommend this product!
