Summary: Tired of multi-multi-multi blade systems!
Comment: Keep it simple stupid, is a great motto to live by and after many years I decided to give up the expensive multi-blade razors and go back to the cheap double edge variety I grew up with. We're talking spending $2 to $3 dollars each, or $.30 each! A true no-brainer, assuming it gives the same results. Well it does...maybe even better. As others have stated, you have to get used to it and you will be bleeding a little until then :) but it's well worth it! Also as others have stated, I now actually look forward to shaving!
The razor is very well made and heavy-feeling for its size.

Summary: Wetshaving 101
Comment: This is the razor that all the wetshaving articles recommend for beginners, and I must agree: it performs very well, its mechanics are simple and foolproof, and it looks like it will last forever. I recommend it with no hesitation.

Summary: The Razor's Edge
Comment: This is a man's razor. I bought the Merkur HD razor three months ago and when it came I first thought it was a joke, being the diminutive size that it is and not knowing that much about shaving. Since then I have come to love this razor, although the first few shaves did yield a knick or two, I have mastered the technique required to receive a shave that can be called flawless. When shaving with this razor in particular it is vital that you have a good cream, I use Truefitt & Hill, as well as a badger hair shaving brush, the most important factor is making sure that your blade is fresh meaning sharp. I have since showed this razor to my father who said he used to have the same kind, although his brand was Gillette, and it was very good then. If you are still a part of the "machine" and use those disposable razors or the kind with replaceable heads its time to upgrade to this superb razor! This razor is a must buy for any man , whether you have a light or heavy beard you will be amazed at the results this razor will yield. A+

Summary: Great New Way
Comment: I have been searching for the best possible shave out there. After a long time of using those multi-blade disposables, I figured I would try and old-fashioned safety razor. Now, truthfully I had no idea what to expect and I would be spending about $35 on it. But, once I got this in the mail and picked up a pack of razors, I WILL NEVER SWITCH EVER AGAIN. I do not get razor burn, irritation, or any type of cuts/nicks with this razor. More importantly, in the long run, I will save a ton of money because the blades that I found to work best for me cost about $2.30 for a pack of 10!!! I was paying just about $9 for a pack of 4 disposables. If you're wondering if this is a good buy or not, don't wonder anymore, THIS IS AN EXCELLENT BUY.

Summary: Best Safety Razor for the Beginner
Comment: The Merkur is the real deal folks, a razor like your grandpappy used to use! The razor has some heft to it and architecturally beautiful, not some cheap piece of plastic. And once you master the technique it is a far better shave than any triple blade razor can offer. But you do have to work at perfecting the shave, it's not like the plastic ones where you can rake it over your face half-asleep. I would suggest that the first couple of months shave at night, not when you are in a hurry in the morning before work. It might sound insane, but I actually ENJOY shaving now thanks to this well constructed razor.
