Comment: These blades are fantastic! I bought them along with the Merkur Long-Handled Safety Razor #180. There's a huge difference between these and any other razor I've tried. I've used single blade, double-blade, etc etc, razors, and they simply don't compare. This went through a 3-day growth of beard without a problem. Disposable razors and even supposedly good razors with replaceable blades couldn't even come close. I used to get razor burn every time I shaved, but these blades are so sharp that's not really a problem any more. You do have to be a little more careful simply because they are so sharp, but that's really the only drawback. Also, since they are double-edged blades, I can use one side and my wife can use the other (they're marked with a 'I' and 'II' on the edge of the blade so you know which side you're using.)

Comment: I bought these blades with a Merkur Safety Razor. I have to say that I have never had such a good shave. I used to use the typical three blade $20 razors. Not any more!

Summary: No wonder it is considered baseline
Comment: This is a great blade. I usually get about 10 passes across my face for each blade. I get a smoother, more constant shave than I could have ever expected.

There is a learning curve. The fist few times I cut myself up pretty badly. And last night, girlfriend found out the same thing.

That being said, once I got the hang of it--light, smooth strokes--I never looked back to the other "shaving systems". I don't know why you need 4 or 5 blades when one does the trick so well.
