Sony Ericsson Music Speaker System MDS-60 for Sony Walkman W810 Reviews
Customer Rating:

Summary: Didn't last 1 year
Comment: I never thought I would write an unpleasant review for a Sony product, Well, here it is.
The speaker sound quality is excellent as well as being self contained for travel and charges the phone while in use. Purchased in Dec 2007 I would expect more than a year of product use.
The adapter that the phone sits on will not connect with the phone. I thought it was my Z710i so I tried the W710i and it will not work either.
I'm really disappointed since it made a great travel system to listen to music without having to take a laptop.
I haven't thrown it out yet because I keep thinking the system will self-heal.

Summary: Good $30 system, bad $80 system
Comment: When I bought this for my w810i Amazon was selling it for $30. It's a pretty cheap tiny plastic speaker thing, and if you just want to a simple solution to charge your phone and to play music quick and easy it is great. Sound quality is hardly equal to a real stereo, but it is reasonable for the tiny speakers and plastic enclosure. I would never pay 80 bucks for it though. I give it 4 stars for a $30 system, 1.5 stars for an $80 system.

Summary: Good Product
Comment: I got this product much cheaper than what it's advertising for now, so my review is probably based on the price ($30). For what I paid, it is an excellent product. I love being able to listen to my MP3's at work, at home, anywhere. Very simple to use.

Summary: Awesome!!!
Comment: Wonderful product, worth every penny. Superb sound quality, packs a punch considering its size. I would definitely recommend it to any potential buyers.

Summary: Missing bass frequencies and integration possibilities
Comment: Sound:
This is a decent product providing medium quality sound that's fairly clear in the mid and high end, but completely missing most of the low end. You may say what can you expect from a portable unit of this size, but I compared this against the Altec Lansing imMini which is essentially the same size, and the imMini went significantly lower at the expense of the highs. But altogther, I consider the imMini a better listening experience.
Integration:
The Walkman and radio integration is very good, though I agree with another review that the reception wasn't great - one would hope for more since you have more to work with in a larger unit in terms of building in a better antenna.
What's missing, in my opinion, was the opportunity to integrate the alarm clock function as well as the phone ringer into the system. When you receive a call when music is playing, it'll interrupt the music, but the ring will come from the phone, not the speakers. Same for the alarm clock. Even if you use the radio for the alarm clock ringer, it'll come out of your phone, not the MDS-60. As a result, the wake up experience is less pleasant (tinny music from handset, versus better quality from MDS-60). Why they didn't take the opportunity to have the speaker dock output all phone audio is a key omission in my opinion.
All this being said, for the current price, it's a reasonable buy and you get a clean looking setup. Sure, you can use your headphone plug and a cord into a line in of a better sounding system, but it'll be a tangle of wires.
So while I was expecting far better from the reviews here and hoping I could use this as my clock radio going forward, I'm going to settle for using this as an occasional source of music and more likely a consistent charging alternative to the AC adaptor. That's about it.
