Summary: A great story that dwindled at the end -
Comment: I really liked the formatting of this novel. Ms. Picoult flipped back and forth between the past and the present, telling the stories of Emily Gold, Christopher Harte and their respective families in the years leading up to and the months directly following a failed dual suicide attempt between the two kids. Since Chris was the survivor, speculations rose about whether or not Emily actually killed herself. Evidence was gathered that suggested foul play and Chris was put on trial for her murder.

The concept of this story was excellent. And the literary styling of changing times, then seamlessly overlapping past and present towards the end of the novel, when the reader is learning what really happened that night, is brilliant.

Sadly, what is not so brilliant is the final conclusion to the novel. It felt to me that this whole emotionally-charged experience just petered out once the final verdict was read. Unresolved conflicts between some of the minor characters were forgotten. And the underlying thought in my mind was that of waste.

I felt very gipped by the fact that I'd just invested so much time into reading this story - enjoying it for the majority of that time too - and then it just ENDED.

Of course, as I'm sitting here writing this I'm also thinking back on the story as a whole and I'm actually wondering if that feeling I had might have been the point?

Summary: Fantastic Read.
Comment: This book was recommended to me by a friend and avid Jodi Picoult reader. I absolutely loved the book and read it in three days while on vacation. It is gripping, page-turning, and thought provoking writing and i loved every minute of it. Jodi Picoult is truly a very talented writer and her craft is well displayed in "The Pact." If you love Jodi Picoult's work or just want a book that has more substance to it than spit on the sidewalk, then this is a great choice. Happy Reading.

Summary: Pretty good
Comment: This started out as a real page turner for me. It sucked me in and I read about half the book in one evening. Trying to go back to how teenagers in love view the world, I think Picoult really captured how kids this age see only the immediate and feel everything is more significant then it really is. In some ways this is the classic teen love tragedy. Parts of it just went too long and overall I think it would be a better book with fewer twists and turns. I just didn't feel like they all added that much. In fact, at points I got distracted and started feeling annoyed at characters that I initially was drawn into, but overall still worthwhile to read.

Comment: I felt it was a little slow to start, but, by the last 2/3rds of the book, I couldn't put it down. I stayed up till 3 am just to finish. I love Jodi Picoult's style and how she challenges the reader's point of veiw. If you've never read one of her books, this would be one worth picking up!
