Summary: Simple but lacking in depth
Comment: Perhaps I should have taken the title a little more seriously, especially the "For Dummies" part. This book certainly starts at the beginning and does a fairly good job of it, but my only complaint is that most people moving into Ubuntu are not total beginners at computers. I was expecting a little more depth, but perhaps unfairly so, given the Dummies series.

Summary: Ubuntu Linux for Dummies
Comment: To start with, the CD is NOT the latest version of Ubuntu! It came with 6.1, they are up to 8.1 as I write.
This book isn't for dummies, it's by dummies! I got next to nothing out of it. It's going in the trash, a waste of money.

Summary: Dummies
Comment: This is a little light. The on-line Ubuntu community provides a much more comprehensive and helpful resource.

Summary: Good book. Read on...
Comment: I have long shelve of books on linux and unix. This is one decent book on ubuntu but it is what the title says: it is book for a very beginner and in this role it is very credible reading. You should not expect from it any "advanced" subjects, but it walks you trough first time ubuntu experience. It outlines and crisply describes basic things for first time users. It is not up to current version, but it is still very reliable.
If you are looking for more than merely basic guide see Ubuntu, Kubuntu 8.04 and Linux Training Library 2DVDs+CD as it comes with great PDF library on CD.
If you never touched Linux before you probably need the Linux/Unix course see Linux and UNIX for a beginner complete training suite, 4DVDs + 2CDs ed.2008

Summary: Outdated information useless - cd is corrupted
Comment: The book is outdated. The latest version of Ubuntu (8) can not be learned using this book. I decided to switch to the version included with the book to prevent a total loss, but the CD files were corrupt and would not load. Book is useless. CD doesn't work. Save your money and don't buy.
