Summary: vornado VH2
Comment: I bought this as a gift for my mother in law. She has a new house with very high vaulted ceilings. We were trying to save on heat while still staying warm. She says she hasn't turned the vornado off since Christmas. It fills her great room with even heat and she loves it .The vornado is very quiet and cool to the touch. It is very easy to operate and we are both glad I bought it.

Summary: Not For Us
Comment: I purchased the Vornado VH2 Heater, but I returned it to the store after a few days.
My wife and I owned a Lasko Ceramic Element 30" Pedestal heater for years, but this season it finally died. We chose the Vornado VH2 Vortex heater after reading some of the positive reviews.
We live in the Northeast, have kind of a drafty apartment and we try to keep the heat low or off to save energy. The space heater goes into whatever room we are in and we use it to heat that room while we are there. Or we turn it on in the bedroom in the morning while we get ready for the day.
After a few days, it was clear that the Vornado VH2 was not going to cut it. The unit blows heat, but it is very tepid compared to our other heater.
We did notice that the Vornado VH2 (as many positive reviews here have mentioned) gives a very ambient warmth - meaning that it seems to spread the heat about the room very evenly. However, be warned, it takes a loooong time for it to even raise the temperature a little bit.
I am confident in saying that this is NOT the heater for certain uses. For instance, if you have a home office and you like to use a heater to aim warmth your workstation area, this would not do the trick. Also, it isn't the heater for a fast warm-up. The Vornado VH2's big failure was in our morning routine. Usually, during the winter, we wake up, put on the heater, go into the bathroom to get ready and when return to the bedroom the heater has it nice and toasty. Well, the first morning using the Vornado was a shock - it felt as if nothing had changed in the room.
After a couple of days, I went out and bought another Lasko heater, (same model as we had before,) brought it home and did a side by side comparison. NO CONTEST. I immediately boxed up the Vornado and returned it.
*****On a safety note: The plug for the Vornado VH2 seemed to not sit well in the outlet. When I would go to unplug it after using it, I would notice that the plug would kind of be hanging down, just a little, out of the outlet. This doesn't seem to be the case with our new heater, or our old one.

Summary: Defective ON/OFF switch
Comment: I bought a VH2 for an infants room.
It worked very well for a while.
Then the ON/OFF switch stopped working.
It is stuck in the ON position.
It can not be shut off unless it is unplugged.
This thing is a fire hazard.
I was lucky that I shut it off in time before it started a fire in our baby's room.
I called the Vornado company but they want $25 plus shipping to fix it.
All it needs is the switch.
I asked if I could just send back the control panel.
I am an electrician.
Not worth it!
I will never buy another Vornado product again.
They use cheap parts made in asia and then want to rip you off to fix it.
Why are so many electronic items made to just be disposable.
If it was just made with better quality it would last more than a couple of uses.

Summary: improper design
Comment:
I send the following letter to the manufacturer which describes the problem:
Vornado Air Circulation Systems Inc

Andover, KS 67002
I purchased a Vornado Vortex VH2 Heater from ACE HARDWARE in 2006 used it for six weeks and than again for 10 weeks in 2007. That is a total of four month. This year the fan wouldn't operate even though the heater was heating up. I opened the unit to examine the problem and here is what I found:
The dust which enters the unit through its sides had accumulated around the shaft and worked its way into the motor housing where it accumulated at the end of the shaft. The shaft has about a 1/4 " clearance, that is you can push it back and forth by that much. Now the first 1/8" the propeller will rotate freely but when you push it all the way in it has so much resistance that it no longer turns but with force. Thus if I pull the propeller all the way forward and than tip the whole unit forward to hold the propeller in that position the fan will work fine. As soon as I tip the unit back to its normal position the propeller freezes.
My conclusion: Since the unit must have the air you can not add any kind of filtering thus the dust with time will eventually bring the fan to a halt. I consider this a design problem and every owner will incur this problem depending on how much dust accumulates and when
Recommendation: I like the way the fan works when it works but Don't buy it!

Summary: Toasty warm....
Comment: This is a great heater for the money. It's quiet, yet puts out the heat really well with the fan inside. We had one, and purchased another because they work so well!
