Summary: beware, these are tuber indicum, not melanosporum
Comment: These are not black winter truffles (Tuber melanosporum). I thought the price was too good to be true, (even though they aren't fresh), and it is. These are Tuber indicums. It says so right on the label.

I was very angry about this, but JR Mushrooms has said they will refund me for the truffles and even let me keep them. So I give JR credit for excellent responsiveness and customer service, although I still feel they should not be labeled "black winter truffles".

Comment: This review is mostly about the seller. They are great! The product arrived within 2 days, with standard shipping.

I have never had black truffles before. They have a very earthy, smoky flavor that really emerges when lightly sauteed in butter. They are an expensive, pleasant, treat.

Comment: These truffles are not as great as they are made up to be. I thought for the price they would have a greater taste, but they didn't have much taste at all. They are not worth the price, but had to find out for myself. I will not be buying truffles again, and I'm not going to spend over $10 for a fresh one.
