Comment: I have never seen a journal article on achieving good color that didn't start with the statement "You MUST profile your monitor". I am a professional photographer with over a million photographs, and I couldn't agree more, in this digital age if your computer doesn't know what you are seeing on your monitor you simply will have "drug store" color on your prints. I chose the W-Rite EODIS2 Eye-One Display 2 based on Scott Kelby's recommendation. The plus's were: reasonable price, and works great. The minus is the documentation is obviously written by a non English speaker--it needs to be better. But, if I can work my way through it, anybody can. I promise you will like the price and the results.

Summary: X-Rite is Alright
Comment: Seems to be working well. The more simplified calibration process worked without a hitch. I also liked the way it reminded me to recalibrate after one month, something I would not generally do if left on my own. I couldn't, however, get the advanced calibration process to work and still can't figure out why.

Comment: I had an old Spyder and then later got a new, wide gamut monitor. Couldn't profile my monitor worth a darn. The X-Rite did it the first time, spot on. Software was easy to install. Both easy and advanced modes worked fine, though I've found the 'easy' to work just as well.
Only negative is that once you get past the 4 weeks, every time you boot up it asks if you want to re-profile. Wish you could hit 'snooze' for a week or more as that gets a bit annoying.

Summary: Works OK for laptop display, so-so for dual monitor setup
Comment: Seemed to work well pm my Dell laptop display. A 2nd monitor (Samsung 225BW) in a dual-monitor setup (under Vista) wasn't that close a match to the primary display. Ended up returning the device since it didn't meet my primary objective (to have matching displays).
